A 12 year old girl strangles her mother in the midst of a fight about the girls messy room. A 9 year old stabs a playmate, because she wanted the ball the other child had.
What is happening to this world? How did we descend to such a little that the normal squabbles and frustrations of everyday life could result in a child committing murder.
Posted by Rachel Ann at May 31, 2005 01:37 PMWell, maybe we start from the wrong place. Maybe they weren't really children. Maybe the state of being a child really ends much earlier. Beats me. I do think that childhood, as we think of it, is a more recent invention since the Industrial Revolution and before that children became adults much more quickly.
Either way, horrifying.

Posted by: tallglassofmilk at June 1, 2005 07:35 PMThat sums it up. Still, how does a child think like that without some encouragment? My 11 year old gets angry at me, she may scream, she may call me the worst mother in the world, but I can't imagine her putting her hands about my throat!
Posted by: Rachel Ann at June 1, 2005 07:40 PMSome people raise their kids, some people don't, and some people attempt to raise their kids but fail. When I say raise, I mean to help your child to grow and to learn to be a respectable person. In these two cases, the parents have failed, or didn't bother to try. The parents have allowed their kids to see things, hear things, and/or know things that kids shouldn't know and can't understand. They have allowed their kids to be influenced by sources not good for a young, tender mind. It's for these reasons that causes the idea of murder to cross these kids minds.
This is what the world is coming to, a time where a child will think of murder as a possible solution. A time where people have no respect for human life. A time where someone can kill anyone, a friend, a parent, without a second thought.
Before I go I have to say to tallglassofmilk: don't curse. Don't say curses, don't type curses, don't quote curses. I don't want to live in a world where kids murder, I also don't want to live in a world where cursing is done without even thinking about it.

Posted by: The Agent at June 1, 2005 09:21 PMGee... do ya think it could be because, for years now, kids have been seing literally hundreds of acts of murder enacted every week?
Between video games, television and movies...
Nawwww... couldn't possibly be that.

Posted by: Light & Dark at June 1, 2005 10:12 PMI wonder though. I am certain it plays a part...the Wit and I were talking about the desenitation of children to violence, but that step in between, where you go from not being upset by seeing to doing...I don't see how that comes about even from watching these things. And these were young girls;it would be interesting to investigage their viewing habits.
Posted by: Rachel Ann at June 2, 2005 01:12 PMRich was watching the news the other night at 1am when the story about the 9yr old stabbing/killing the 11 yr old. It woke me up out of a sound sleep.
I couldn't believe it.
This world has become twisted and demented....more than usual.
